South B residents demand county to protect prime land

Residents of South B estate are appealing to county and national governments to ensure prime land earmarked for a market is not grabbed.

The locals recently thwarted an attempt by a developer believed to be highly influential to fence off the disputed parcel in Makuti area.

Irate residents who brought down the fence want authorities to secure the land where a proposed modern market is supposed to be constructed.

Nairobi South MCA Waithera Chege has tabled a petition in the county assembly over the dispute. She claims her life is in danger after some individuals threatened her for defending the land.

Waithera has reported the threats at Richfield Police Station.

“The modern market would benefit the locals mostly by increasing employment opportunities, quality of production, and increasing consumer status,” the MCA said in her petition.
